About the Council

The 2006 Florida Legislature established the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys to study conditions negatively affecting black males in our state. The Council is housed in the Office of the Attorney General and has a 19 member board led by Jerome Hill, Program Operations Administrator, Florida Agency for Health Care Administration.

Welcome Message From The Chair

On behalf of The Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys, I want to welcome all Floridians and lay out an understanding on how we collectively strive to improve the well-being of black men and boys in our state. The Council is a non-partisan body aimed at reviewing long standing conditions and circumstances affecting a population of Americans who have been historically marginalized. We study and review areas of concern in order to establish facts, reach conclusions, and offer practical recommendations to improve the lives of black men and boys. With a higher degree of understanding, we aim and serve as an additional resource to law enforcement, politicians, and the business community to put an end to perpetual structural disparities.

MISSION

The Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys is to research and propose measures that improve conditions affecting black men and boys.

VISION

The Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys is committed to engaging, educating, equipping and encouraging all black men and boys to successfully achieve their full potential.
